The EV6 and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 share a platform, an 800-volt architecture and a corporate parent. They do not share a warranty position, and the difference favours the Kia.
Kia publishes a 70% capacity floor. Hyundai publishes none. For a used buyer that is a real distinction on two closely related cars — it means an EV6's measured State of Health maps onto a manufacturer commitment, while an IONIQ 5's does not.
The catch is distance. Pre-model-year-2027 Kias are covered for 7 years or 150,000 km, not the 8 years and 160,000 km people often assume from the Hyundai comparison. Almost every used EV6 falls in that bracket. Full terms: Kia battery warranty in Australia.
The packs Australia got
| Variant | Years | Usable kWh | Claimed range | Real-world consumption |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Air Standard Range | 2022–2024 | 54.0 (58.0 gross) | 394 km | 17.7 kWh/100km — modelled |
| Air / GT-Line Long Range RWD | 2022–2024 | 74.0 (77.4 gross) | 528 km (AU) | 16.6 kWh/100km — measured, Australia |
| GT-Line AWD | 2022–2024 | 74.0 (77.4 gross) | 506 km | 18.5 kWh/100km — modelled |
| GT | 2023–2024 | 74.0 (77.4 gross) | 424 km | 20.6 kWh/100km — modelled |
The Long Range RWD is the one with a measured Australian consumption figure, and at 16.6 kWh/100 km it is genuinely efficient for the size of car. 74 kWh usable at that rate is roughly 446 km real-world against a 528 km claim — a normal test-cycle gap.
What normal looks like
An EV6 under four years old should measure in the high eighties to low nineties. The 800-volt system, strong thermal management and very fast DC charging mean these cars tolerate frequent fast charging better than most.
That last point cuts both ways. Because an EV6 can add serious range in fifteen minutes, owners fast-charge them often — so an EV6's charging history is usually heavier than a comparable car's, even though the pack handles it better.
What to check before you buy
The odometer against 150,000 km, which on a well-used EV6 is the binding limit rather than the 7 years
Which pack — 54 or 74 kWh usable
Measured State of Health against the 70% floor, and cell voltage spread
Whether the car was used commercially, which is common on long-range 800-volt cars
Model year, in case you have found a 2027 car with the improved 8-year, 160,000 km terms
