The EX30 is a well-engineered small electric car with a properly managed 65 kWh pack, and there is not much to say about how it ages — it should behave predictably.

The complication is the paperwork.

Same pack, different drivetrain. The Performance is thirstier, which is what you would expect — 65 kWh at a modelled 19.1 kWh/100 km is roughly 340 km real-world against a 450 km claim.

The warranty problem

Volvo covers the battery for 8 years or 160,000 km, transferable. On capacity, two official Volvo Cars Australia pages disagree:

  • Volvo's battery page says capacity below 70% is repaired or replaced

  • Volvo's warranty page publishes no percentage and says normal gradual capacity loss is not covered

If the battery's condition is material to the price you are paying, get Volvo's position in writing for that specific vehicle. A dealer's verbal assurance is not the same thing.

What normal looks like

The EX30 is new enough that most examples on the used market are two years old or less. Expect low-to-mid nineties. Anything below about 90% on a car this young is worth understanding, not because it is alarming, but because it is early.

What to check before you buy

  • Measured State of Health and cell voltage spread

  • Volvo's written position on capacity for that specific car

  • In-service date and odometer against 8 years and 160,000 km

  • Single Motor or Twin Motor, which changes expected consumption by more than a kilowatt-hour per hundred kilometres

Volvo's older electric models are a separate case — the XC40 Recharge alone was sold here with 66, 75 and 79 kWh usable packs, and the C40 with 67 and 75 kWh.
