The Mini Countryman SE ALL4 and the BMW iX1 share a 64.7 kWh usable battery. They do not share a warranty. BMW covers the iX1 for 8 years or 160,000 km. Mini covers the Countryman for 8 years or 100,000 km — the lowest distance cap of any battery warranty published in Australia, and 60,000 km short of the mechanically related car in the next showroom.

64.7 kWh at a modelled 17.7 kWh/100 km is roughly 365 km of real driving against a 433 km claim. The ALL4 is a twin-motor car, and the second motor costs range.

Why 100,000 km is the number to watch

A Countryman used for a Sydney commute might cover 15,000 km a year, which reaches 100,000 km in under seven years — before the eight-year date. A car used for regular Blue Mountains or Central Coast trips gets there sooner. On most EVs the date expires first; on a Mini the distance can, and a listing showing 85,000 km is a car with roughly a year of battery cover left regardless of its age.

Mini also publishes no capacity percentage, using the same undefined "excessive capacity loss" language as BMW. So there is a short distance cap and no number to measure against. Full terms: Mini battery warranty in Australia.

What that means for a buyer

Two things. First, price the remaining kilometres, not the remaining years. Second, a dated independent measurement is worth more here than on a car with a long warranty and a published floor, because once the 100,000 km cap passes, what you measured is the only evidence you will hold.

What to check before you buy

  • Odometer against 100,000 km — the binding limit on this car

  • Measured State of Health and cell voltage spread

  • First registration on or after 1 November 2022, which determines whether these terms apply

  • DC fast-charge history
