Toyota's first mainstream electric SUV comes with a specification detail that catches people out, and a warranty exclusion that catches out a different group.
The usable capacity gap
The bZ4X is commonly listed as a 71.4 kWh car. The usable capacity is 64.0 kWh — a gap of 7.4 kWh, or a little over 10% of the headline figure.
That buffer is deliberate engineering; Toyota has been conservative, and a large reserve at both ends of the charge window is one reason these packs should age well. But it means any range calculation done on 71.4 kWh is wrong by more than 10% before you account for a single percentage point of degradation.

64 kWh at a modelled 18.3 kWh/100 km is roughly 350 km real-world against a 516 km claim. That is a wide gap even by test-cycle standards, and it is the number to plan around.
The commercial-use exclusion
Toyota covers the bZ4X battery for 8 years or 160,000 km with a 70% capacity floor — and excludes commercial use, specifically naming taxi, hire and rideshare vehicles.
That matters more on this car than it sounds. Electric SUVs are popular in rideshare fleets, and an ex-rideshare bZ4X has not only worked harder but carries no battery capacity cover at all. The warranty you thought you were inheriting is not there.

What normal looks like
The bZ4X is new enough that most used examples are one to two years old. Expect low-to-mid nineties. Toyota's conservative buffer means these packs should hold up well, so a figure meaningfully below that on a young car is worth understanding.
