Cronulla is as coastal as Sydney gets, and every used-car conversation here eventually reaches salt air. It is worth being precise about, because the honest answer is partly reassuring and partly not.
Salt air is not a battery problem
The traction battery is a sealed unit. Salt-laden air does not get inside it, and a coastal vehicle's pack is not at greater risk of capacity loss because of where it lives.
If anything, the coast is good for a battery. Heat is the primary driver of permanent lithium capacity loss, and Cronulla is temperature-moderated by ocean on two sides. It does not get the run of extreme days that western Sydney does, and it cools down reliably overnight. Local vehicles frequently measure at the healthier end of what is normal for their age.
Salt air is very much a car problem
What salt does affect is everything outside the sealed pack: body panels and seams, underbody, suspension components, brake hardware, fasteners, electrical connectors and earth points. On a vehicle that has spent ten years a few hundred metres from the surf, that is a real and expensive category of problem.
A battery test does not cover any of it, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. We measure the pack. We do not inspect the underbody, we do not assess corrosion, and we do not look at structure.

The local driving pattern
Cronulla driving is short and shallow. Beach, shops, school, the ferry. A journey of a few kilometres barely discharges the pack, and shallow cycles are the gentlest thing a lithium battery experiences — far gentler than the deep daily cycle a long commuter takes.
One consequence worth knowing: in winter a short trip never brings the pack up to temperature, so efficiency looks poor and regeneration is limited for the whole journey. That tells you about the trip, not the battery. The measured State of Health does not move with the weather.
