Sydney has the deepest used EV market in Australia, and that is the whole reason a battery test is worth having here. When there are twenty Model 3s and a dozen Atto 3s within driving distance, you do not have to accept the one with the tired pack — you just have to know which one it is.
We are fully mobile across the metropolitan area. The car stays where it is, we come to it, and you get a written report at the appointment.
Where we go
Sydney CBD and the inner suburbs, the Eastern Suburbs, the Inner West, the North Shore and Northern Beaches, the Hills district, Western Sydney, the South West, the St George and Sutherland areas.
Practically, that means we attend:
- A private seller's home, which is where most used EVs actually change hands
- Dealerships, subject to the dealer agreeing — worth asking before you are deep in a deal
- Auction yards, which in Sydney are concentrated in the west and south-west, and where the timing is unforgiving
- Workplace car parks, which is often the only slot a working seller can offer
$249 per vehicle, no travel surcharge anywhere in the service area.
The auction problem, and why mobile matters
Sydney's auction houses are where a lot of ex-fleet and ex-lease EVs enter the used market, and they are the hardest place to inspect a car properly. Viewing windows are short, cars are often not started, and bidding closes whether you are ready or not.
A battery test takes minutes and happens at the yard. That is the difference between bidding on a known quantity and bidding on a hope, and on an ex-fleet EV — high kilometres, heavy DC fast charging, unknown treatment — the battery is exactly the thing you cannot afford to guess about.
What Sydney does to a battery
Heat is the main driver of capacity loss, and Sydney's west runs consistently hotter than the coast through summer. A car garaged in Manly and an otherwise identical car parked on a driveway in Penrith have not had the same life.
That is not a reason to avoid western Sydney cars — it is a reason to test rather than assume, in both directions. Plenty of well-kept cars in hot suburbs test better than neglected ones by the water.
It matters most on passively-cooled packs. The Nissan LEAF has no liquid thermal management, and in Sydney conditions that shows up in the numbers.
Booking
Online booking is open for all Sydney postcodes. Pick a date and a morning or afternoon session; we confirm the arrival time before attending. Phone 02 7252 1390 if you would rather arrange it that way.
We also cover the Blue Mountains, Wollongong and the Illawarra, the Central Coast and Newcastle.
