Glenbrook is the first town past the Nepean and the lowest of the mountains suburbs, which puts it in an interesting middle position. It is cooler than Penrith — the elevation is real and so is the tree cover — but it does not get the upper mountains' genuinely mild summers either.
For a battery, that middle position is worth understanding rather than glossing over. Heat is the main driver of permanent capacity loss, and the difference between a car that has spent four summers in Glenbrook and one that has spent them in Emu Plains is smaller than the distance between the two suburbs suggests. On the worst February days the whole Nepean corridor is hot, and Glenbrook is close enough to share a good deal of it.
What it does have in its favour is housing: detached homes, garages, carports and trees. Where the car sleeps matters more than the suburb average, and in Glenbrook most cars sleep under something.
The commute pattern
Glenbrook's EVs split fairly cleanly into two groups, and they age differently.
The Sydney commuters do long motorway runs — deep discharges, full recharges most working days, sustained high-speed driving where an EV is least efficient. Real cycling, and cycles age a pack faster than kilometres do.
The local cars barely do anything. A few kilometres to Glenbrook station, to Penrith, to the shops. Those cars accumulate almost no cycles and their packs are usually in excellent condition regardless of age.
Two cars on the same street, same model, same year, can be in genuinely different condition. The odometer will hint at it. Only a measurement settles it.
