Liverpool anchors Sydney's south-west growth corridor, and the driving patterns here are distinctive: long commutes, significant distances between where people live and where they work, and a lot of new housing with driveway parking.

All three matter to a battery.

The long-commute effect

South-west Sydney households often drive further daily than almost anywhere else in the metropolitan area. On an electric car that means deep, regular charge cycles — a substantial discharge and a full recharge most working days.

Cycles are what age a lithium battery, more than distance alone. A Liverpool commuter car with 80,000 km on it has typically done more full-equivalent cycles than a 120,000 km car doing short suburban hops with occasional top-ups.

That is not a reason to avoid these cars. It is a reason not to read the odometer as the whole story.

The heat effect

South-west Sydney runs hot — not quite Penrith, but well above the coast. With new estates dominated by driveway and garage parking in roughly equal measure, where a specific car slept is a genuine variable.
