Drummoyne sits on the harbour with a fast ferry into the city, and a large share of households here commute by water rather than by road. Their vehicles do the weekend and very little else.
Low kilometres, and what they are actually worth
A vehicle that barely moves sounds like the ideal used buy, and for most components it is — less wear on everything mechanical, fewer things fatigued.
The battery is the exception, and it is worth understanding precisely.
A lithium pack ages two ways at once. Cycling tracks energy through the battery, which roughly tracks kilometres. Calendar ageing happens whether the vehicle moves or not, and it is driven by temperature and by the state of charge the pack sits at. A cell held near full sits at a higher voltage, and higher voltage accelerates the chemistry that permanently removes capacity.
So a vehicle plugged in and charged to 100% on Sunday night, then left until Saturday, spends most of its life at high voltage. The identical vehicle left at 50-60% between uses ages measurably less.
The gap between those two is invisible in the listing and obvious in the measurement. Low kilometres command a premium here. They should command a smaller one than they do.
Nearly every modern EV offers a charge limit. For a vehicle that mostly sits, around 50-60% with a top-up before a longer trip is materially kinder than keeping it full. LFP is the exception — BYD, and Tesla's Standard Range and RWD models — where a periodic full charge is actually recommended so the battery management system can recalibrate.
The local environment is kind
Harbourside, temperature-moderated, well treed and largely garaged on the established housing stock. Heat is the primary driver of permanent capacity loss and there is comparatively little of it here.
The apartment stock along Victoria Road is a different case — older buildings, rarely with basement charging, so those owners rely more on public DC fast charging. That is a harder charging life and it shows in the numbers.
