Gosford is the Central Coast's centre of gravity and, for electric cars, it is defined by one thing above all: the commute to Sydney.

The M1 run is among the hardest duty cycles an EV does. It is long, it is fast, and sustained high-speed driving is exactly where an electric car is least efficient — aerodynamic drag climbs steeply above about 80 km/h and there is almost no regenerative braking to recover on a free-flowing motorway. A Gosford commuter typically arrives home with the pack well down and puts a full charge back in overnight, most working days.

That is a complete charge cycle, and complete cycles age a lithium pack considerably more than kilometres alone suggest. A three-year-old Gosford EV with 90,000 km has worked harder than a five-year-old Terrigal car with the same reading, because the Terrigal car accumulated its distance in small, shallow, gentle pieces.

None of this makes a commuter car a bad buy. It means the odometer understates the work, and it means measuring is worth more here than in a suburb of school-run cars.

The relocation factor

A significant share of Central Coast EVs were bought in Sydney and moved north when their owners did. Where a car spent its first few summers matters — heat is the primary driver of permanent capacity loss, and a car that did three Februarys in western Sydney before arriving in Gosford carries that history in its pack.

You cannot read a car's previous postcode off the dashboard. Service history sometimes shows it. A measurement always shows the result of it.

The coverage gap worth knowing about

NRMA's battery health check — the biggest name in the category — covers Sydney Metro and Canberra only. There is no AVILOO-partnered tester listed anywhere between Sydney and Newcastle. If you have been trying to find someone to check a Central Coast car, that is why.

We cover it, at the same price as Sydney.

Where we come to

Gosford, East Gosford, West Gosford, Point Clare, Tascott, Narara, Wyoming, Springfield, Green Point, Kariong and Somersby. A home driveway, a seller's address, a dealership, a station car park.

The vehicle stays where it is. The read is non-invasive, takes minutes, and you get the written report at the car.

Booking

Online booking is open for all Gosford and Central Coast postcodes. $249, no travel surcharge — the price is identical to Sydney. Phone 02 7252 1390 if you would rather arrange it by voice.
