The Woy Woy peninsula has an older resident profile than most of the Central Coast, and that produces a very particular kind of used car: low kilometres, high age, and a battery history that the odometer does not describe.
This is worth being precise about, because it is where buyers most often pay for the wrong thing.
A lithium battery ages two ways at once. Cycling tracks how much energy has gone through the pack — roughly, kilometres. Calendar ageing happens regardless of whether the car ever moves, and it is driven by temperature and by the state of charge the pack sits at. A car parked for most of its life still ages.
So a seven-year-old EV with 41,000 km is usually in better condition than a seven-year-old with 140,000 km — but the gap is smaller than the odometer implies, and it can close entirely if the low-use car spent those seven years plugged in at 100% on an uncovered driveway.
Low kilometres command a premium in the listing. They should command a smaller one than they do. A measurement is the only way to tell whether you are buying a genuinely fresh pack or an old one that simply did not go anywhere.
What the peninsula does otherwise
The climate is coastal and mild, which is good — no run of extreme heat days to drive capacity loss. Housing is predominantly detached with carports and garages. Trips are short, shallow and gentle.
The counterweight is the commute. A substantial number of peninsula residents take the train from Woy Woy to Sydney, which means their cars do a couple of kilometres to the station and then sit in an open car park all day. In summer, that is a car baking in full sun for nine hours, which is harder on a pack than the driving ever was.
