Kincumber sits in the valley between Brisbane Water and the coastal ridge, and the local topography has more effect on an electric vehicle than a flat suburb's would.

Steep local roads, and what they actually do

Getting in and out of Kincumber means climbs and descents on short, steep roads rather than long motorway gradients. That produces a driving pattern with frequent, sharp elevation change over modest distances.

Climbing draws high current from the pack in short bursts. Descending puts a good deal of it back through regenerative braking. Neither is damaging — this is precisely what an electric drivetrain does well, and it is the reason EVs handle hilly country better than petrol cars do.

What it does affect is how the vehicle's own numbers read. Energy consumption figures on a hill suburb look worse than the vehicle deserves, and the range estimate swings noticeably depending on which direction you are heading. Judging a battery by either is unreliable here.

The measured State of Health does not move with terrain. It measures capacity relative to when the pack was new, it lives in the battery management system, and it is displayed nowhere in the vehicle. On a suburb like this, that gap between the dash and the reality is wider than average.

The climate is one of the better ones

Kincumber is close enough to the water for genuine temperature moderation, without the exposure of the open beachfront. Summers are mild by Sydney standards and nights cool down reliably.

Heat is the primary driver of permanent lithium capacity loss — ahead of kilometres, ahead of age — so that matters. Combined with the detached housing and garages standard on this stock, local vehicles generally have a kind thermal life and tend to measure at the healthy end of the normal band.

The two local populations

As with much of the Central Coast, vehicles here divide between the M1 commuters — long, fast runs into Sydney, deep daily cycling, real work for the battery — and the local runabouts, which do a few kilometres a day and accumulate almost no complete cycles.

Both are advertised in much the same language at prices that do not reliably distinguish them. The odometer hints at which is which. A measurement confirms it, and on a commuter vehicle it usually reveals more work than the reading suggests.
