What the lake does
Lake Macquarie is large enough to have its own local effect, and the suburbs around it split into two quite different environments for a car.
The eastern and coastal side — Belmont, Swansea, Redhead, Caves Beach — gets full ocean moderation. Mild summers, reliable overnight cooling, and none of the extreme heat days that drive permanent lithium capacity loss. Cars from this side tend to measure well for their age.
The western and inland side — Toronto, Morisset, Cooranbong, Wyee — sits away from the water and runs warmer through summer. The difference is not dramatic, but heat is the main driver of capacity loss and it accumulates across summers rather than showing up on any single day.
The distances are the other factor
Lake Macquarie is spread out. Getting around the lake means real distances at real speeds, and a lot of local EVs do more highway driving than their owners think of as highway driving. Combined with a Newcastle or Sydney commute for a good number of households, that adds up to deep, frequent charge cycles — the thing that ages a pack faster than kilometres alone.
The practical consequence: a Lake Macquarie EV's odometer understates the work it has done, and the variation between one car and the next on the same street can be substantial.
