Randwick sits between the university and hospital precincts and the beaches, which gives it a distinctive car population: a lot of apartment dwellers, a lot of short trips, and a significant number of cars that spend most of the week parked.
Low kilometres are not automatically good news
A car that barely moves sounds ideal, and for most components it is. For a lithium battery, there is one caveat worth knowing.
Sitting at a high state of charge is a stressor. A nickel-chemistry car left plugged in at 100% for long periods, particularly in warm weather, ages faster than one kept in the middle of its range. So a low-kilometre car that lived permanently on a charger at full is not necessarily in better condition than a higher-kilometre car that was used properly.
That reverses on LFP cars — BYD, and Tesla's Standard Range and RWD models — where regular full charges are actively recommended, because the battery management system needs them to recalibrate.
So the useful question is not just "how many kilometres" but "what chemistry, and how was it kept" — and the measurement settles it either way.
