The northern end of the Central Coast is the thinnest part of our service area for public charging. There is far less of it than in the metropolitan area, the distances between towns are real, and a good deal of local driving happens at highway speeds on the way to somewhere else.
That turns real-world range from a specification into the question that decides the purchase.
Claimed range is not what you get
The figure on the window sticker is a laboratory result under standardised conditions. What a vehicle actually delivers depends on four things: its measured State of Health, the speed it is driven at, the load it carries, and the temperature.
Take a used EV claiming 400 km that has quietly lost 15% of its capacity. That is roughly a 340 km vehicle in ideal conditions — and meaningfully less on the highway with the air conditioning running, or on a cold morning with the heater on.
For an inner-suburb buyer that gap is an inconvenience; there is a charger somewhere. Up here it is the difference between a vehicle that suits your life and one that quietly does not.

The local ownership pattern
There is a high proportion of retired and semi-retired households here, which generally means low kilometres and gentle use — short trips, shallow discharges, very few complete charge cycles. That is genuinely good for a pack.
The caveat is the one that applies to every low-use vehicle: calendar ageing continues whether it moves or not, driven by temperature and by the state of charge it sits at. A vehicle plugged in at 100% permanently, on an open driveway, has been ageing the whole time it looked like it was doing nothing.
So a low-odometer vehicle up here is usually excellent and occasionally not, and the reading — rather than the reading on the odometer — is what separates them.
