The battery

Honda's two-motor e:HEV system uses a lithium-ion pack that spends most of its time as a buffer — the engine runs a generator, the motor drives the wheels, and the battery smooths the difference. It is worked constantly but shallowly. That is a gentle duty for a lithium battery, and these packs have no reputation for early failure.

What it also means is that Honda's cheap-repair story is thin. The reconditioning trade in Australia is built around Toyota and Lexus nickel-metal-hydride packs. A Honda lithium pack that needs attention is a Honda part.

What "no published term" means for you

Not that the battery is uncovered — it is part of the car. That there is nothing published to compare a measurement against, and nothing that says gradual capacity loss is or is not a defect. If the battery's condition becomes material after the vehicle warranty ends, a dated independent reading is the only benchmark you will hold.

Check the warranty booklet in the glovebox and the original sale documents for the 8-year offer. Do not rely on a listing that says "8-year warranty" without seeing the paper.

A CR-V e:HEV at four years with 80,000 km should be unremarkable. The pack is small, shallowly cycled and liquid-managed. Variation between cars comes from heat and usage more than anything inherent.
