The XC60 T8 plug-in hybrid carries a 19.0 kWh battery, claims 89 km of electric range on WLTP, and is covered for 8 years or 160,000 km from retail sale on or after 1 April 2020, transferable. On capacity, Volvo Cars Australia publishes two positions — a battery page that promises action below 70%, and warranty terms that publish no percentage and exclude gradual capacity loss. We have not chosen between them.

Earlier XC60 T8s — from 2018 — carried a smaller pack with a much shorter electric range. The current 19 kWh car is a substantially different plug-in from a 2019 one that wears the same badge, and used listings rarely make the distinction. Check the build year before you believe an electric range.
Why the contradiction matters more on a plug-in
A PHEV pack ages faster than an EV pack because it does a full cycle most days. If capacity is guaranteed to 70%, that ageing is a measurable question with a threshold. If it is excluded, it is your cost. Volvo's two pages put a used XC60 T8 buyer in the position of not knowing which of those worlds they are in.
Our advice is the same as for the Volvo EVs: get Volvo's written position on capacity for that specific vehicle before the battery's condition becomes material to what you pay. Both official links are on our Volvo battery warranty page.
What the assessment covers
The pack's reported State of Health, cell-group voltage spread, temperature behaviour and stored or pending high-voltage codes. A prestige plug-in that has been garaged and charged nightly on a home wallbox will typically read very differently from one that has never been plugged in and has spent its life as a heavy petrol SUV — and both patterns are common on this car.
