Albion Park and Albion Park Rail sit at the southern end of Lake Illawarra where the coastal strip opens out, and the EV fleet here is overwhelmingly household: family cars, bought new or near-new, doing school runs, shopping and a commute north.
What determines their condition is almost entirely habit rather than geography, and two habits matter most.
What the car is charged to overnight. A pack left at 100% sits at a higher cell voltage, and higher voltage accelerates the chemistry that permanently removes capacity. Leaving a car at 100% every night for years is one of the few genuinely avoidable things owners do to their batteries — and almost nobody is told. Most manufacturers now offer a charge limit setting of 80% or thereabouts for daily use, and the cars whose owners used it measure better.
Where it parks. Albion Park's newer estates have limited tree cover and a lot of open driveways. A dark car on an exposed driveway through a February afternoon reaches temperatures well above ambient. Combine that with a full charge and you have the worst case for calendar ageing. A garage or a carport genuinely changes the outcome.
Neither of these is visible in a listing. Both show up in a measurement.
The Illawarra Highway factor
Albion Park is the gateway to Macquarie Pass and the Southern Highlands, and a fair number of local EVs do that run. It is a steep, sustained climb with a long descent coming back — heavy current draw one way, substantial regeneration the other. Benign for the pack, but it makes the car's efficiency readouts unrepresentative, which is another reason not to judge battery health from the dash.
