Artarmon has one of the densest concentrations of vehicle workshops and trade businesses on the North Shore, sitting alongside a substantial apartment population. If you have been quoted for battery work anywhere in Sydney, there is a fair chance the quote came from within a few kilometres of here.
Which makes this the right page to be plain about something.
We do not sell batteries
Almost every battery assessment offered in Australia comes from a business that also sells, reconditions or fits replacement batteries. Most of them are skilled and honest, and if you genuinely need a battery they are exactly who you want.
But the party telling you whether your battery is failing should not be the party who profits from the answer being yes. That is a structural conflict, not an accusation, and it exists across almost the whole category.
We test. We do not sell batteries, we do not fit batteries, and we have no commercial relationship with anyone who does. If your pack is fine, that is the entire report. There is no second page.
When a second opinion is worth $249
Three situations come up repeatedly:
You have been quoted for a replacement pack. On a hybrid especially, packs are frequently condemned when the actual fault is a small number of weak modules — Australian remanufacturers report that packs arriving diagnosed as faulty often still hold 70 per cent or more of their capacity. A module-level repair is a fraction of the cost of a full replacement, and knowing which one you need before anyone quotes changes the conversation.
A dealer has offered you their own battery report. That is worth having and it is worth knowing who produced it. An independent, dated, verifiable figure is a different thing from a seller's assessment of their own stock.
Something has been misdiagnosed as a battery. On Toyota and Lexus hybrids, a blocked traction battery cooling intake produces heat-related symptoms and warning messages that look exactly like a failing pack. It is a service item. Toyota even has its own dashboard message for it.
The local apartment picture
Artarmon's apartment stock is mostly older, and older buildings rarely have basement charging. Those owners rely on public DC fast charging instead, several times a week for years — which generates heat and accelerates capacity loss compared with slow overnight AC. Whether a given vehicle had a charger in its building is invisible from outside and obvious in the numbers.
