Chatswood has one of the highest apartment densities in Sydney, and for a used electric car that is quietly good news.
Basement parking is kind to a battery
An underground car park is one of the best environments a car can live in. It is shaded, thermally stable, and largely insulated from the summer peaks that drive lithium capacity loss. A Chatswood apartment car has typically had an easier thermal life than almost any equivalent car in the west.
Many buildings here also have EV charging, which usually means slow AC overnight charging — gentler on a pack than repeated DC fast charging.
The combination of moderate North Shore temperatures, basement parking and home AC charging is close to the ideal ageing environment for an EV battery in Sydney.
The offsetting factor
North Shore commutes into the city and across to Macquarie Park are steady, and traffic here is heavy. Stop-start driving is not hard on a battery — regeneration recovers much of it — but the daily distance adds up over four or five years.
We come to the basement
Testing in an apartment basement is routine for us. The car does not need to be moved or driven out, we come to the space it is parked in, and the read takes minutes. Worth mentioning to a seller if they assume the car has to go somewhere.
Where we come to
Chatswood, Artarmon, Willoughby, Lane Cove, Naremburn, Northbridge, Roseville, Lindfield, Killara, St Leonards, Crows Nest and the surrounding suburbs.
Booking
Online booking is open for all Chatswood postcodes. $249, no travel surcharge. Phone 02 7252 1390 if you prefer.
