Brighton-Le-Sands sits between Botany Bay and the airport, and three local factors shape what we find in a battery here.
Older apartments, no basement charging
Much of the residential stock along this stretch is apartment blocks built well before anyone was planning for electric vehicles. Retrofitting charging into a building like that is not simple — the electrical supply was sized for apartments, not for a car park of chargers — so a good proportion of local owners charge in public instead.
Public DC fast charging generates real heat, and repeated heat cycling is what permanently removes capacity. Several sessions a week for years is a materially harder charging life than slow overnight AC in a garage. Whether a given vehicle had a charger at home is invisible from outside and clear in the measurement.
The airport is next door
Long-stay parking is a local habit, and a vehicle left in an uncovered bay for two or three weeks in January is hot for most of that time. If it was left at 100% — the instinct, because you want range when you land — then it has spent weeks hot and full, which is the combination that ages a nickel-chemistry pack fastest.
Leave it around 50% instead, and undercover if the option exists. You will still have plenty to get home on, and the pack will thank you. We have set the reasoning out in full on our Rockdale page.
Salt is real, and it is not a battery problem
The pack is a sealed unit and salt air does not get into it. What salt does affect is the body, underbody, suspension, brake hardware, fasteners and earth points — a genuine and expensive category of problem on an older beachfront vehicle.
We do not inspect any of that, and we would rather say so plainly. If you are buying an older vehicle along this stretch, book a mechanical inspection as well as a battery read. They answer different questions.
On the positive side, the coastal position is good for a battery — temperature-moderated, no run of extreme days, reliable overnight cooling. Heat is the main driver of capacity loss and there is less of it here than a few suburbs inland.
