Paddington is terraces and narrow streets, which means resident permit parking, no garage for most households, and a vehicle that lives wherever there was a space that evening.
A vehicle with no fixed address
Most battery advice assumes a vehicle has a home — a garage, a driveway, a particular spot. Here it does not. It parks where it can, which means the thermal environment changes night to night: under a plane tree one evening, in full afternoon sun the next.
That produces an averaging effect rather than a consistent one, and it makes the usual question — "was it garaged?" — unanswerable. The honest answer for most Paddington vehicles is no, and the useful information is in the measurement rather than in the seller's account.
Charging without a driveway
Without off-street parking there is no wallbox, so local owners charge in public: DC fast chargers, workplace charging, shopping centre bays.
DC charging generates real heat, and repeated heat cycling is what permanently removes capacity. Several sessions a week for years is a harder charging history than slow overnight AC. A vehicle from a household with workplace AC charging has had a much easier time than one living entirely off rapid chargers, and nothing visible distinguishes them.
What makes up for it
The driving is minimal and gentle. Paddington is walkable, close to the city and well served by transport. A large share of vehicles here are used for weekends and occasional trips, at low speeds in heavy traffic with constant regeneration.
Very few complete charge cycles accumulate, and shallow discharges are the gentlest thing a lithium pack experiences. Many local vehicles have genuinely low odometers with correspondingly little battery work behind them.
The one caveat on a vehicle that sits: calendar ageing continues whether it moves or not, and it is driven by temperature and by the state of charge the pack sits at. A vehicle left at 100% for a fortnight between uses ages faster than the same vehicle left at 50-60%. Most owners have never been told, and it is the single most avoidable thing they do.
We come to the street
No driveway required. We test wherever the vehicle is parked, the read takes minutes, nothing is written to it and it does not move. Give us the street and a rough location when you book.
Where we come to
Paddington, Woollahra, Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, Centennial Park, Moore Park, Edgecliff, Double Bay, Bondi Junction and Waverley. Street parking, small garages, apartment basements and seller addresses.
Booking
Online booking is open for all Paddington postcodes. $249, no travel surcharge. Phone 02 7252 1390 to arrange it by voice.
