Subaru's high-voltage battery warranty is 8 years or 160,000 km — three years longer than the 5-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty — and it publishes no capacity percentage. That applies to every Subaru hybrid and EV. On a used Forester it is the single most useful fact in the brochure, and listings almost never mention it.
Two Foresters, two hybrid systems
The e-Boxer Forester Hybrid sold from 2020 is a mild system: a small lithium-ion battery and a modest motor assisting a petrol boxer engine, with a small fuel saving and limited electric-only driving. The Strong Hybrid Forester that followed uses a larger battery and a more capable motor and is a full hybrid in the Toyota sense.
They are different batteries doing different jobs. The e-Boxer pack is lightly worked and small; the Strong Hybrid pack is worked like a RAV4's. Both sit under the same 8-year cover.
What "no percentage" means
Subaru's terms cover the battery against defects for 8 years. They do not say what capacity loss counts as a defect. On a mild hybrid, a weakened pack shows as the assist doing less and fuel consumption creeping up — without a published floor, whether that counts is Subaru's call. What's normal
An e-Boxer Forester at five years with 90,000 km should be unremarkable — the pack has done little. A Strong Hybrid is new enough that most examples are barely run in. Foresters do a lot of Blue Mountains and weekend-away kilometres, which is gentle on a hybrid pack and hard on nothing but tyres.
On the test drive
On an e-Boxer, feel for the assist off the line and the engine stop-start behaving. On a Strong Hybrid, check electric creep in a car park and that the engine shuts off at rest. On both, compare fuel consumption against Subaru's claim.
